Top 5 Things to Check Before Buying Used Luxury Cars

The allure of owning a prestigious vehicle at a fraction of its original cost is undeniable. Imagine cruising down Delhi’s vibrant streets in a gleaming Mercedes-Benz, a symbol of luxury and performance.

This was exactly what captivated Manav Gupta on a breezy Sunday morning as he stood outside a dealership, eyeing a beautiful car in the used luxury car section. However, Manav, a seasoned buyer, knew that acquiring a premium vehicle, especially a used luxury car, demands more than just a superficial glance.

His experience had taught him that while the prospect of owning a dream machine at nearly half the price is exciting, thorough due diligence is paramount.

To help you navigate the thrilling yet intricate world of second hand luxury cars in Delhi, Manav meticulously followed (5 +1) essential steps, simple yet crucial checks every prospective buyer should undertake.

1. Service History and Documentation: The Car’s Medical Record

Manav’s first crucial step was to inquire about the car’s maintenance records. A comprehensive and well-documented service history from authorized workshops acts as the strongest assurance of a meticulously maintained vehicle.

Beyond the service book, he thoroughly reviewed all critical paperwork: the registration papers, insurance details, and, most importantly, he verified that there were no pending loans or liabilities attached to the car. Any missing documentation, Manav knew, is an immediate red flag that warrants caution.

2. The Comprehensive Physical Inspection and Strategic Test Drive

A sparkling paint job can often mask deeper, underlying issues. Understanding this, Manav didn’t rely solely on aesthetics. He brought along an experienced mechanic who meticulously inspected the:

1. Engine bay

2. Checked all fluid levels

3. Condition of the tyres and brakes

4. The functionality of the electronics

Following the static inspection, a thorough test drive was conducted. Manav and his mechanic drove the car on various terrains, city roads to assess urban handling and a nearby rough patch to gauge ride comfort, suspension performance, and braking efficiency.

This critical step, he firmly believed, was key to preventing unexpected repair costs down the line.

3. Accident and Modification Checks

Before committing, Manav delved into the car’s history. He diligently verified the car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to ensure it had not been involved in any major accidents, flood damage, or theft cases.

Furthermore, he consciously avoided cars with significant modifications or extensive aftermarket parts. Such alterations, he knew, could potentially compromise the vehicle’s long-term reliability and, crucially, negatively impact its future resale value.

4. Opting for Peace of Mind: Certified Pre-Owned Options

Manav significantly preferred vehicles offered through certified pre-owned programs. These programs provide an unparalleled level of assurance.

Such vehicles undergo rigorous multi-point inspections by certified experts, often come with a limited warranty, and, most importantly, boast verified service records.

This makes them significantly safer and more reliable choices compared to purchasing directly from unverified private sellers.

5. Understanding the True Investment: Total Cost of Ownership

While the attractive sticker price of luxury cars in the pre-owned market is enticing, Manav understood that the initial purchase price is just one part of the equation. He meticulously calculated the total cost of ownership upfront, factoring in higher insurance premiums, ongoing maintenance costs, and fuel expenses. This proactive approach ensured long-term affordability and helped him avoid any unpleasant financial surprises after the purchase.

6. Miscellaneous & Market Dynamics: The Overlooked Details and Future-Proofing

Beyond the core five, several “miscellaneous” yet critical factors can significantly impact your used luxury car buying experience in India:

Factor Details
Odometer Tampering Odometer rollback is common in used cars. Service history and a professional diagnostic scan can help detect inconsistencies. Check wear on pedals, steering wheel, and seats for signs of excessive use not matching the mileage.
Recalls and Software Updates Luxury cars often have manufacturer recalls or software updates. Ensure all recalls are addressed and the car’s software is current to maintain safety, performance, and feature compatibility.
Key Count Make sure you get all original keys. Replacing/reprogramming modern luxury car keys is costly. Missing keys may signal a stolen vehicle or security risk.
Fuel Type Preference Consider local regulations and future trends. Diesel cars face restrictions in cities like Delhi NCR. Petrol and hybrid/electric options are gaining favour. Petrol cars also tend to retain value better in regions with diesel bans.
Market Trends & Resale Value Some models retain value better due to lower maintenance, part availability, and popularity (e.g., Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series). Research current demand before buying to ensure better resale value later.
Number of Previous Owners Fewer owners typically mean better care and clearer history. Multiple owners in a short time could indicate unresolved issues.
Seller Reputation Investigate the dealer’s or individual seller’s credibility. Look for online reviews, feedback, or complaints. Reputable platforms like Motozite offer transparency, verified history, and support for used luxury cars in India.

Final Thoughts: Drive Your Dream with Confidence

By diligently following these comprehensive checks, Manav confidently drove home a well-maintained, certified pre-owned luxury car that perfectly balanced luxury and exceptional value. If you’re considering investing in used luxury cars or specifically searching for second-hand luxury cars in Delhi, taking these essential precautions will ensure your dream car experience remains smooth, enjoyable, and completely worry-free.

Understanding Depreciation: When to Sell Your Luxury Car

Buying a luxury car is not just another transaction. It is a choice the buyer makes. A choice to get the very best in terms of performance, comfort, and brand prestige. But if we were to quote the ‘automobile fanatic’ version of Spiderman’s Uncle Ben, “With great power comes great depreciation”.

In terms of automobiles, depreciation refers to the decline in a car’s value over time, owing to factors such as its age, mileage, and market demand. This happens faster and with much more intensity in luxury cars when compared to regular cars.

But why is this the case? Luxury cars come with a huge initial cost, high-end and lucrative technology, and brand exclusivity. The super-high maintenance costs, swiftly changing technology, frequent facelifts, and new models tend to drastically reduce their resale value within just a few years.

If you’re a luxury car owner, this is something that you must be aware of and consider. Why? Because it will help you figure out when to sell your luxury car and get the ideal resale value.

In this blog, we’ll help you understand how depreciation works in luxury cars, how to spot the right time to sell, and how to minimize any losses in the resale market!

What is Car Depreciation?

As mentioned above, car depreciation is the reduction in a vehicle’s value over time. Basically, the moment you drive your car from the showroom, the process of depreciation begins. Influenced by factors such as overall condition, age, and mileage, your vehicle’s march of depreciation continues.

On average, a car loses around 15% of its original value in its first year, which is followed by an annual 10% decline for the next few years. But things are different in the case of luxury cars.

The Luxury Difference

  • Luxury cars tend to depreciate faster with some models losing around 50% of their original value in the first 3 years.
  • Regular cars, on the other hand, lose around 30%-35% in the first three years.
  • In some cases, a luxury car may even suffer a depreciation of anywhere between 50% to 60% if a particular model is discontinued or there’s a massive change in technology, or a facelift of that model arrives.

It is noteworthy that the rate of depreciation (even in luxury cars) differs based on the model. Therefore, depreciation rates are not consistent across brands either.

Factors That Influence Luxury Car Depreciation

Several factors influence the depreciation rate of luxury cars. These include:

Brand and Model Popularity

When it comes to luxury cars, not all brands command the same value and market demand. Brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz tend to hold their original value better than some less popular brands.

Even within the brand itself, you’ll find that some models promise better resale value than others.

Initial Purchase Price and Taxes

If the luxury car’s purchase price is high, it has more value to lose. And it isn’t limited to the actual price of the car itself. Buyers should also factor in insurance, road tax, and registration fees (These don’t carry over when the buyer sells the car later on).

Usage and Mileage

Excessive mileage also speeds up the depreciation of luxury cars. Usually, buyers prefer luxury cars with mileage below 10,000 km to 12,000 km per year. Furthermore, high-mileage luxury cars suffer more in terms of value than high-mileage economy cars.

Maintenance History and Condition

This one’s quite obvious! Luxury cars that are well-maintained and have a full-service history depreciate slower.

On the other hand, a poor service record along with a multitude of dents and scratches are like red flags to buyers (obviously, they don’t fare well in the luxury car market).

New Launches and Facelifts

Luxury brands refuse to rest on their laurels and consistently innovate. They launch new models that feature the latest technology in the industry. So, when a new model with updated features and technology arrives, it hampers the appeal of an older model.

Technological Obsolescence

Apart from the updated models, the tech industry also continues to expand and grow at an alarming rate with new innovations in AI, ADAS, etc. So, a sharp rise on this front can also make even quite recent luxury car models outdated.

Fuel Type and Market Trends

Trends in fuel type indicate that the demand for diesel luxury vehicles is plummeting with the shift towards EVs, hybrid, and petrol cars.

However, electric cars also tend to lose their value fast, primarily thanks to concerns about their battery life.

Owners of luxury cars need to keep a tab on the trends and understand these variables to figure out when to sell their luxury car.

Depreciation Timeline: When does a luxury car lose the most value?

Year 1: Sharpest Drop

Often, luxury cars lose between 15% to 25% of their original value in the first year itself.

This is mostly because the taxes, mark-up, and ‘new car premium’ evaporate as soon as your luxury car is registered.

Year 2 to 3: Gradual Continued Decline

The next two years witness a steady yearly depreciation of 10% to 15%. By the time the luxury car completes 3 years, it might end up losing around 50% of its original value.

Year 4 to 5: Depreciation Slows Down

During these two years, depreciation slows down a bit, averaging around 8% to 10% yearly.

However, if that particular luxury car model sees a new facelift version in the market, these rates might increase.

Year 6 and Beyond: Depreciation Plateaus

After the fifth or the sixth year, depreciation of luxury cars usually flattens.

From here on, the car typically retains its market value (especially if it is well-maintained).

If one looks at it from a strict value standpoint, the best time to sell your luxury car is at the end of the 3rd year. Other factors like major warranty expirations or arrival of new models must also be considered.

What are some signs that it’s the right time to sell your luxury car?

Here are some tell-tale signs that the time is ripe for you to sell your luxury car:

  • Sell it before a major warranty expiration comes close (note that most cars come with either a 3-year or 5-year warranty).
  • Sell it when the time for a major service is coming closer, such as transmission servicing. At such a time, many buyers consider selling a better option than repairing.
  • Sell it just before a model update to preserve your car’s appeal. We know you can’t possibly know when a new model is going to get launched but keep an eye out for the news and updates to stay in the know.
  • Sell it if you find that your used luxury car still boasts high demand in the resale market.
  • Sell it if a major market shift is happening and there’s still time for you to sell your dream car before it suffers a massive decline in resale value.

How to minimize depreciation before selling?

Although depreciation is inevitable, some smart practices can reduce the financial sting. These include:

  • Make sure that the service records of your luxury car stay updated as a complete service history goes a long way in reassuring buyers and boosting resale value.
  • Aim to keep your car’s usage below 12,000 km/year as higher mileage is taken by buyers as an indicator for greater wear and tear.
  • Avoid too many cosmetic customizations as they can also steal from your luxury car’s resale value by rendering many buyers uninterested.
  • Invest in stuff like interior detailing and ceramic coating to give your car a clean and well-maintained appearance.
  • Before showcasing your luxury car in the resale market, invest in minor updates that can boost its resale value.

Where and How to sell for the best resale value?

Choosing the right channel or platform to sell your luxury car can make a huge difference in terms of the money you can get.

Here are some options and the benefits they can provide:

  • Authorized Dealerships: Selling here will provide convenience and reliability but it can also mean lower resale value due to the overhead costs and margins. However, one might get the benefit of an exchange bonus which can make the price equivalent to selling anywhere else.
  • Luxury Car Marketplaces: Platforms like Motozite cater only to high–end vehicles and luxury cars. Selling here would mean that your car reaches the audience that it should.
  • Direct Buyers: If you can find a direct buyer and sell to them straight away, it will eliminate the intermediary fees that you might have to pay with other options.

Luxury Car Maintenance Guide: What to Expect

Owning a luxury car is often seen as a ‘status stunt’. It is also a commitment to quality and an investment in automotive excellence. Whether it is a stylish sedan, a high-performance luxury SUV, or any other precision machine of your choice, maintaining it requires diligence, effort, and, we hate to say it, but money.

Maintaining a luxury car is entirely different from maintaining a standard road car. That’s where first-time owners of luxury cars go through a steep curve of surprise. They begin to understand that maintaining their dream luxury car means taking good care of it as the kilometers increase.

If you are about to buy a luxury car, or struggling to maintain one that is already in your fleet? Either way, here we are with a crisp and concise guide on how to maintain a luxury car and the expenses that one can expect!

The Luxury Difference: Why Maintenance Matters

Luxury cars are built with meticulous attention to detail. Premium materials, high-performance components, advanced electronics, and complex drivetrain systems all contribute to their elevated status.

But this also means:

  • Tighter tolerances and more sophisticated systems require specialized service.
  • Replacement parts are often imported, brand-specific, and costly.
  • Skipping maintenance can result in quicker depreciation and expensive repairs.

Luxury vehicles require consistent care tailored to their unique engineering standards. That’s why following the manufacturer’s service schedule is not just recommended, it’s essential.

Routine Maintenance: What You’ll Need to Budget For

Let’s take a closer look at what goes into the routine upkeep of a luxury car.

Scheduled Servicing

Most luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and more follow a detailed periodic service schedule.

These are generally split into:

  • Minor Service (Every 10,000–15,000 km): Includes oil and filter changes, basic fluid top-ups, and a multi-point inspection.
  • Major Service (Every 30,000–40,000 km): Involves spark plugs, air filters, brake pads and rotors, transmission fluid.

Typical costs:

  • Minor service: ₹15,000 – ₹30,000
  • Major service: ₹45,000 – ₹1,00,000+

Furthermore, each brand and model has unique requirements. For example, a Porsche Cayenne’s service costs will be significantly higher than those of an X5.

Brake System Maintenance

Luxury cars often come with high-performance brakes, ventilated discs, carbon ceramic rotors, or adaptive brake systems, which wear out faster due to the vehicle’s weight and speed potential.

  • Pads and rotors need frequent inspection and timely replacement.
  • Cost Estimate: ₹45,000 – ₹1,50,000 for brake pads replacement, depending on the model and brake material (Cost can touch the higher limit and even exceed it if it includes replacing brake rotors)

Tyre and Wheel Care

Performance tires used on luxury cars are softer and wear out faster than regular ones. Larger alloy wheels (18” and above) and staggered setups are common, making replacements expensive.

  • Tyre replacement interval: 25,000 – 40,000 km
  • Cost per tyre: ₹25,000 – ₹85,000 (performance tires cost more)
  • Wheel alignment and balancing: Required every 10,000 km – 15,000 km

Taking Care of Battery and Electricals

Luxury vehicles rely heavily on electronics — from infotainment systems and adaptive suspensions to driver assistance features. This makes battery health and electrical diagnostics a top priority.

  • AGM or Lithium-Ion batteries used in these cars are expensive.
  • Replacement cost: ₹20,000 – ₹3,50,000
  • Brands like Audi, BMW, etc. may require software resets after battery replacement.

Fluids and Filters

Don’t underestimate the importance of high-grade fluids:

  • Engine oil: Fully synthetic, often brand-recommended
  • Transmission fluid: Especially critical in dual-clutch or ZF 8-speed systems
  • Coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid: Must be replaced as per schedule

Filter types:

  • Cabin air filters (pollen filters)
  • Engine air filters
  • Fuel filters (particularly in diesel models)

Annual cost for fluids and filters, upkeep, and replacement: ₹15,000 – ₹50,000

Long-Term Considerations: The Real Cost of Luxury Ownership

Extended Warranty & Service Packages

Most manufacturers offer extended warranty plans and prepaid service packages, which may appear costly upfront but offer long-term savings.

  • BMW Service Inclusive, Mercedes-Benz Star Ease, Audi Comprehensive Plan, and others cover everything from wear-and-tear items to engine repairs.
  • Extended warranty and service packages are available for a duration of 1 year to 5 years. Many brands offer packages above 5 years as well.
  • Typically priced at ₹3.0 – ₹9.5 lakh for 5 years, depending on vehicle category.

Depreciation & Resale Impact

Luxury cars depreciate rapidly, especially if their maintenance records are not properly maintained. A full-service history from an authorized service centre can:

  • Boost resale value by 10–20%
  • Provide peace of mind to buyers
  • Ensure warranty claims are honored

Hidden Costs You Shouldn’t Ignore

Beyond routine maintenance, here are other expenses you may encounter:

  • Software updates for infotainment and driving systems
  • Interior care: Leather treatment, headliner cleaning, sunroof lubrication
  • Ceramic coating or PPF for exterior paint protection
  • Suspension repairs: Air suspension systems like those in Range Rovers or S-Class cars can cost over ₹2 lakh to fix
  • Fuel requirements: High-octane fuel or premium diesel might be mandatory in performance variants

How to Inspect a Used Luxury Car Before Buying – A Complete Checklist

You want to buy a luxury car, but you aren’t willing to put in the big bucks and pay for a brand-new one. Naturally, the best option for you remains buying a pre-owned luxury car. After all, you get the same car you’ve been dreaming of at a fraction of its price.

But wait, here’s the catch. You’re not the first owner of that car, and a pre-owned luxury car has been used (and you don’t know how it has been used). What we’re trying to say is that purchasing a pre-owned luxury car comes with some caution.

There are certain things that you need to inspect in a used luxury car before finalising the purchase. In this article, we’re here to give you a thorough checklist for inspecting a used luxury car.

Inspecting a Used Luxury Car: Tick All The Boxes On This Checklist

Whether you’re venturing into the luxury segment for the first time or you are upgrading your car, remember to ‘check all the boxes’ on the following list.

Now, let’s hit the accelerator and go through them, one at a time:

Conduct a Thorough Preliminary Research

Before you even visit a dealership to buy a used luxury car, do these things:

  • Research the Model You’re Buying: Get in touch with experts to understand all the common issues that might come with that specific make, model, and year.
  • Evaluate Maintenance Costs: When it comes to upkeep costs, luxury cars often demand more. So, before you invest in a pre-owned luxury car, check its probable maintenance cost.
  • Depreciation Curve: Remember to check the car for its depreciation numbers and find out if that particular luxury car will offer a decent resale value if you want to move it on after 2-3 years.
  • Service History: Check the service history of the car; it will give you information about if the car has been serviced regularly and what other work has been done on the car.

Next Comes the Visual Inspection

Give the car a physical test by checking:

Exterior:

  • Make sure that the paintwork is consistent throughout the car and that there are no mismatched shades.
  • Check for rust and scratches thoroughly. Because even luxury cars can get a little rusty, especially under the trunk, doors, and wheels.
  • Ensure that there are no uneven gaps between panels (they are often the result of accident repairs).
  • Also, remember to check the headlamps for fogging or any cracks

Wheels and Tyres:

  • Keep an eye out for uneven wear in the tires, which is the result of alignment issues.
  • Check for dents or scratches on the rims, as they point towards rash driving by the previous owner.

Check Interior Condition

When it comes to luxury cars, the interior is where all the luxury resides, doesn’t it? So, do remember to give the interior of the pre-owned luxury car a thorough check.

  • Make sure there is no discoloration, sagging, or cracks on the leather seats.
  • Conduct a thorough evaluation of all the electronic components, including AC vents, seat adjusters, infotainment system and speakers, sunroof, ambient lighting, and power windows.
  • Run your fingers across the dashboard to look for any fading caused by the car’s age or improper usage.

Inspect Tech and Electronics

Today, luxury cars come with a range of tech features to assist the driver and the passengers. That’s why you should remember to check:

  • Navigation features like map accuracy and connectivity for infotainment purposes
  • Ensure the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (if available in the model) are working properly, including features like lane assist, 360-degree view camera, sensors, and adaptive cruise control.
  • Make sure that no warning lights in the car are blinking or persisting after ignition

Performance Evaluation

Now that the exterior, interior, and tech have all been checked, it’s time to get on the wheel and check the car’s performance. Here, you can start by:

  • Checking for delayed ignition, unusual noises while starting the car, or excessive smoke
  • The engine should not sound abrupt, and the sound must remain consistent throughout the drive.
  • Transmission response should be seamless (after all, it’s a luxury car) whether it’s a 9-speed automatic or dual-clutch.
  • The steering mustn’t give off any vibration and should feel precise
  • Finally, remember to check the brakes for any bite, travel, or shuddering.

Documentation Check

Thoroughly checking documentation is probably the most overlooked aspect of buying a used car. We’re not saying that buyers ignore checking documentation altogether. But they tend to miss out on one or two important pieces of documentation.

To ensure that you don’t miss out on any, here’s a quick checklist:

  • Ensure that the RC Book matches the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and Engine Number.
  • Take a look at the insurance history to check for major claims that might have been the result of an accident.
  • Check all tax slips, pollution certificates, service booklets, and invoices
  • Check for any pending challans
  • Check for hypothecation on the Registration Certificate. If the Registration certificate has hypothecation mentioned, it means either of the following two possibilities:
    • That the car is still under finance and EMIs are being paid, in such a case, ensure that the loan has been paid off completely and that at least a foreclosure letter is received (if not NOC) from the bank before making full payment to the seller. However, getting NOC is most critical as ownership transfer can not proceed without it. Also, check for any link loans with the car loan.
    • The car loan has been paid off, but hypothecation has not been removed from the registration certificate. In that case, please check the NOC received from the bank.
  • To ensure a smooth transfer, remember to check RTO Form 29 and Form 30

Additionally, remember to get clarity on the number of owners that the pre-owned luxury car has had. After all, fewer owners means a better condition of the vehicle and fewer complications, as well. Also, we recommend a full 360-degree scan by an OEM authorized workshop to give you the best report on the as-is status of the car.

Here’s The Checklist Summary For a Quick Look

Category Key Points
Preliminary Research Cost of ownership, Model issues, etc.
Exterior Lights, tires, panels, and paints
Interior Leather, AC, electronics
Tech Inspection Navigation, ADAS features, and more
Performance Brakes, suspensions, transmission, and engine health
Documentation Ownership history, service logs, RC, Insurance. Bank NOC, if applicable

Benefits of buying a pre-owned car from an OEM authorized dealership

Planning to buy that ride you always wanted to own – a dream-come-true moment for most of us? Well, we already know that a great luxury car is capable of digging deep into your pocket. But after waiting all this long to have your dream car, and now when you are all set to buy that vehicular luxury, who would you trust?

Buying a pre-owned luxury car could have a greater aftermath than you would think. And the same is the reason why people are dicey about who to give their money to. But, of course, there are a lot of outlets where one goes directly and finds the best suited pre-owned luxury vehicle: The OEM certified dealerships.

The OEM certified dealerships are the ones you should go for; the ones where you can be sure that the deal won’t be a waste of your time, energy and money. Now, there also might be a great inference about why someone should buy from an OEM certified dealership and what is so special about these OEM certified dealerships. We’re here to tell you just that! But before we dig in, let’s first understand what OEM means.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and is the real deal where you can buy the best and original parts for your vehicle. Every major car manufacturer, such as Mercedes, Audi, BMW, among others, has got one.

Now, you might be thinking what a part outlet has to do with a pre-owned vehicle dealership. That’s a very legit question to ponder on, and shows that you are paying attention to what you are reading about: These OEMs provide a thorough inspection of the vehicle, and as the place is certified to have original parts, inspecting a vehicle comes quite handy to them. The OEM certification means that a service shop has been acknowledged to only use factory-approved parts. It also means that the facility has the right equipment to install those parts and uses only factory-approved procedures. Hopefully, this settles the idea of why having a OEM certification approved dealership is important.

Furthermore, thanks to their service departments, they are best equipped to provide you with the past service history of a vehicle, especially if the car being sold belongs to their house brand. The idea here is to paint you a greater picture about the vehicle and give a clear idea of what to expect from the car from a buyer’s perspective: In short, no more false hopes.

A proper inspection of the vehicle involves a great area of error checking, and OEM services are the best in such inspections as they have a proper step-by-step process.

Some of the particular sections to be inspected by the OEMs are such as:

Body Frame

Body is one of the most important parts of any vehicle and inspecting it could make a great difference if not done properly. Well, with an OEM certified inspection partner, this could come pretty handy as they have stringent inspection policy with multiple checkpoints to find out the best about the vehicle.

This mostly involves checking on:

  • Unibody/Frame
  • Doors/Hood/Trunk/Tailgate Operations

Road Test

We all know that a good road test can easily make the vehicle provide a great array of information as the vehicle is being used to its full potential while on the road. So, a road test is something that plays a pivotal role in any kind of vehicle inspection, and it comes as no surprise that the OEM certified dealerships go through a very immersive road test.

Interior

As we all are very much aware of the fact that the interior is where we spend most of our time. So, having a clear idea about the condition of the interior would be a great advantage as it could add to a great after-buy expense. Well, once you get a good-to-go from this area of the vehicle, it is a great leap into buying a perfect vehicle.

Some of those indicators are as follows:

  • Heating/Ventilation/AC/Defogger/Defrost
  • Window/Door Lock Operation
  • Air Bags/Seat Belts
  • Audio/Alarm/Navigation Systems
  • Interior Amenities
  • Interior Trim/Carpet/Floor Mats
  • Luggage Compartment/Trunk
  • Seats
  • Sunroof/Moonroof/Convertible Top

Body Exterior

That shiny color might be hiding some nasty rust underneath, and it wouldn’t be much to ask to have a proper look at this area of the vehicle. The exterior of the car is something which might be a great influence as having a properly functioning vehicle would have a certain parameter which should be cross-checked just in case of some unseen factors lurking around the corner.

Some of the checks to do are:

  • Body Panels/Bumpers/Fascias
  • Grill/Trim/Molding/Roof Rack
  • Glass/Mirror/Wiper and Washer Condition
  • Exterior Lights
  • Tires and Wheels

Powertrain/Chassis

These are the essentials when compared to the idea of having a great vehicle which you are about to make yours. When buying a pre-owned luxury vehicle, there could be a zillion electronic components as these beauties are loaded with features. And that is one of the reasons why the inspection should be done very carefully.

Some of the key elements to look into are:

  • Engine Mechanical Condition
  • Cooling System
  • Fuel System
  • Electrical System
  • Transmission/Differential/Transaxle/Transfer Case
  • Hybrid System
  • Suspension/Steering

Importance of inspecting a vehicle before you lock the deal

Getting your hands on that dream car is such a luring act. You just want to get done with the paperwork and get into that driving seat to flex it around the neighbourhood. Well, you have waited so long, then why not wait a bit more and have a better look at what you are getting yourself into. A shiny-looking car may have something hidden underneath, and it’s always better to have things all worked out before you hit the road.

We bring to you some teeny-tiny bits of information that could be really beneficial for you while you are on that dream-car hunt. Let us take you through it and get it over with as soon as possible, as we also want you to have that dreamy luxury car of yours.

Let’s begin with the exterior, as it is the most exposed part of the vehicle:

Walk around

Take a walk around the car you wish to make yours. Have a good look at the paint and check whether there are any inconsistencies in it. This should be done in a well-lighted place, or possibly in the sunlight, as it helps in finding the discrepancies of the paint job. Also check for any rust lurking around the outer body of the car, as it might reason out as a badly maintained car. Try opening and closing all the doors, along with the hood and trunk, and check for any unwanted noises coming from them which might be an issue of improper fitting. It is also essential to check for the rubber seals around the doors and windows to make sure that they slide in well.

Glass panels

They play a very important role in the whole process of having a car. Check for any small or large cracks on the glass as it might increase with the passage of time and could be an expensive repair to be made in the future.

Check the suspension of the vehicles

Suspensions are to be in great condition to have a great ride as the whole body might roll here and there if the suspension is not perfect. Yes, the emphasis on the word ‘perfect’ is done here as it caters to a great deal while trying to drive around. With bad suspensions, you might be driving a wobbly car in most cases, and why would anyone want something which is not stable enough to drive. In order to do this, stand at the back of the car and have a decent look for any slogging in the stance of the car. Next, go around the corners and press the car to see if it comes back to its original stance without any difficulty. If it comes back to the normal stance in no time, then it’s one thing less you need to worry about.

Check for any damage in the frame of the car

This type of damage is mostly caused due to any external accessory being installed into the vehicle. There might be holes made into the body and might cater to fill in the unwanted smoke from the outside if not looked into carefully. Also check under the hood – the part that connects the fender and radiator: it should be boulted-in and not welded for any reason at all.

Check the lights and tyres

Lights illuminate the roads and also help while putting a stoppage on the road. Check if all the lights are functioning properly: be it the headlights, tail lights, indicators, third-brake lights as well as the fog lamps. These are of great importance whenever you wish to purchase a used car.

Now moving on to the tyres. It has been said before that a tyre of the car shows you a clear image of its background. A tyre holds key secrets to find out where the car has been ridden and what all bad roads have been encountered by the vehicle. A thorough check-up of the tyre will include checking them of being the same size and make. Next up is checking for the wear and tear, and if there are any, they should be on both the tyres whether up front or at the rear. If any of the tyres are more damaged than the rest, it could be a great indication to know that the car has been driven carelessly before.

Checking under the hood

Hood is where the engine is; hence it becomes one of the most worked up places to look for any damage or leakages. The idea is to have a thorough checking of all the fuel tanks for any leaks. Check the belts for any crack or dry out and make sure that the oil is ample when you pull out the dipstick. The coolant should not be dirty and brown as it may indicate that there is a leak in the head gasket or maybe the coolant tank had never been cleaned before. When you pull the transmission dipstick, the liquid inside should be red or pink in color. The most important part is to check the timing belt, as it is one of the most expensive mechanics of a vehicle, and should be replaced after every 95k – 160k km.

Once you are done with the exterior inspection, let’s move to the interiors as it is the place you will be most of the time whether driving or not.

Let the interior inspections begin!

Seats

This is where most of your time will be spent while you are inside. Check for the seating capacities, if it is well suited for your needs and family comfort or are there any damages like burn marks on the seats. Check for the adjustable buttons and whether or not they are functioning properly. Foldable seats might be having some trouble while trying to recline or move back and forth. Do have a thorough inspection of all these elements of the seats.

Inside lights

This part includes inspecting the inner lights and functionalities. Here you would be looking at the headlights (daytime, nighttime and high beams), ceiling and interior lights, glove compartment lights along with mirror lights.

Controls and accessories

This is a major area you would want to examine pretty closely as all the luxury vehicles provide you with a great array of functionalities. And that is why, this part of the interior examination is a crucial part. It includes checking the windshield wipers and fluid control, heater/air conditioning, vents and airflow settings, mirror adjustments, GPS, door and window locks, power windows, stereo, power outlets, front window and rear window defrost, speakers, horn, clock, steering wheel tilt adjustment, sunroof controls and the releases for the hood, trunk and gas cap. Since it is inclusive of all these inspections, it plays a very crucial role in the whole inspection of the vehicle.

Dashboard

This is where you will be cross-checking the odometer reading with that of the car listing information. Check if there is any wrong information being displayed or are there any warning lights which you might want to take care of after you lock the deal. Once you are done with the aforementioned checklist, you will have some clarity on what you are buying into. However, with Motozite at your behest, you might want to just relax as all the cars in our inventory go through a great deal of inspection from authorised dealerships. It is our foremost responsibility to cater to all the needs of the customer while they are looking for their pre-owned luxury vehicle.

How to Sell a Luxury Car?

Unlike buying, selling a car is not a very joyful journey. Getting the right price and the right buyer are two most critical aspects of selling any car. With the beginning of the new year, this, right now, is the best time to sell your luxury car and get the best value out for your deal.

However, you have to be very mindful of how you want to sell your exotic luxury car. If you decide to sell your luxury car by yourself, you really must know what you are doing. Selling your car privately may sometimes get you a higher price than expected, but that does not eliminate the amount of work you need to do to get yourself prepared for the sale.

Here is a list of things you must do in order to sell your car:

  • Know your car’s worth: Firstly, you need to get a valuation of your car done, preferably through experts. This will help you get an idea of what it is worth. Additionally, getting a valuation done might help you find out if your car needs some fixing. These repairs may lead to a better price for your car. Moreover, you can decide what price to quote for your product.
  • Advertise: Make a list of all the advertising material you need. Take pictures of your car. Prepare an extensive description. It is also important to include the make and model, the year, the colour, the mileage and all other details you can remember. You would have to decide your budget for advertising as well.
  • Meetings with prospective buyers: If people show interest in your car, you need to meet the prospective buyers personally and take them for test drives as well. You have to be prepared to answer the many questions they might have about your car. You can be sure that the potential buyers are familiar with high-end automobiles.
  • Finalising the deal: Once you’ve found a buyer, prepare yourself for the long and tiring documentation process of sale and transfer of ownership. You also need to confirm that the payment has been cleared before you transfer the title, since fake or fraudulent checks are easy to forge. So, whenever you suspect fraud, make sure to contact the buyer’s bank.

Looks tiresome? Don’t you worry! There is an easier way out of it. To save you the trouble of going through all the hassle, we are here to provide you with the one-stop solution needed to sell your car. Depending on what you want, you can either sell your car for the right price or even trade in your old luxury car with a new one. Let’s get started with the two ways:

SELLING THROUGH THE ‘PARK AND SELL’ MODEL: A ‘Park and Sell’ model is one of the options of selling your darling lux. In this kind of sale, you would be handing over your vehicle to your trusted dealership and they will keep it on the floor for sale. Once your car is sold, you will receive your money from the dealership.

The benefits of this option are numerous. To begin with, no potential buyers are randomly dropping by your house and you are not meeting strangers. In addition, the dealership might be able to assist the buyer in obtaining financing. Privately selling it yourself would require an electronic funds transfer or an insured bank check – but those are indeed risky. You can appeal to a wider market when you sell your vehicle through this method as the dealership handles the advertising. Here are the steps to be taken to sell your luxury car via this model:

  • Find a reputable and authorised dealer: First things first, do your research to find out good brand authorised dealerships. Once you have chosen the one you trust, give them your details and relax.
  • Let the dealership examine your car: The dealership will contact you if they are interested in selling your car. Set up a meeting and let them examine your luxury car.
  • Setting a fair price: Once the dealership is satisfied with your car’s condition, they will get its valuation done for you. Set up a fair price for your car with them.
  • Waiting for the right buyer: The dealership will help you list your car and you do not have to worry about advertising. They will help you filter potential buyers and do the needful.
  • Finalising the sale: Once a buyer is ready, you have to proceed with the documentation. The transfer of your car to a new owner requires a lot of paperwork. However, with this option, the dealer will assist you with all of that and help you facilitate the sale without causing any mistrust or uncertainty during the transfer of ownership.

TRADE-IN: Trade-in is an option that is very popular with people who are looking to upgrade their luxury cars with a new one and elevate their lifestyle, in turn. The trade-in process will enable you to free up a large chunk of money, so you can purchase another vehicle from the same dealer in exchange for your old luxury car. In a trade-in situation, the dealership puts your trade-in value toward a brand-new vehicle that you are willing to buy. You can get a lot of benefits and perks when you decide to trade your luxury car in. Trading your car to a dealership is very easy and requires little effort. That can be an important factor when choosing the trade-in option. In addition, there is a straightforward and convenient process:

  • Do your research: You have to do your homework on researching the available brand authorised dealerships. Furthermore, you should know the price range of luxury cars similar to yours. Consult the dealers for an estimate of your trade-in based on the details you provide.
  • Contact the dealership: The next step is simply to contact the dealership that you have selected. The dealership of your choice will do your car’s valuation and offer you their quotation. Here, at www.motozite.com, we strive to offer you the best deals for your trade-in.
  • Select your new lux: Decide on a new luxury car with which you want to upgrade. Your dealership will provide you with a wide range of cars for you to select from. With us having your back, you will not have to worry about that one bit.
  • Seal the deal: Settle the costs with your dealer, complete the documentation required and voilà: you are done! Bring home your new luxury car and step into luxury.

The dealer will likely coordinate with you to transfer the vehicle title, register the car on your behalf and make the entire process simpler for you. Most of the time, you do not have to be concerned about your vehicle’s current condition as in the case of a private sale, since all the maintenance, cosmetic repairs and replacement parts will be handled by the dealer’s authorised service centre. You would receive an estimate for trade-in value that accounts for this added work, and the trade-in money you receive while exchanging your vehicle at the dealership can be used as a down payment on the new vehicle. Although there is no ‘one best way’ and every option has its own pros and cons, it is highly recommended to sell your car through luxury brand authorised dealerships for the many perks they offer.

We, at Motozite, try our best to cater to all the needs you will be confined to, otherwise you have to go out there looking for a pre-owned luxury car. So, what all things you might want to take into consideration while going to get that four-wheeled luxury you have always wanted to own. Let’s have a better look at the things you might want to consider before closing a deal.

What type of vehicle are you looking for

The conundrum always occurs while making the choice between whether you would like to go for an all-performance power-packed monster under the hood or more likely a comfort cruiser for that plush drive on the otherwise not-so-good road conditions. A daily commuter might have a different perspective while looking for a ride, e.g., a fuel efficient luxury car could be what he/she might be looking for. On the other hand, if you are looking for a luxury machine for that weekend highway rides, a preference would be given to a powerhouse, so that you can push some numbers with a comfortable ride otherwise. Well, once you make up your mind among these two factors of your ride, you have established the basic idea of what you will be looking into when you are out there. Also, the cars you might want to make users differ in sizes, as people have different choices when it comes to big and small sizes, mainly focusing on maneuverability through the traffic. Furthermore, a car that runs on a petrol engine could be preferred by some over a diesel-run engine, which is purely a preference one can have. All these factors should be taken into consideration while you go out looking for your luxury car.

Make and model of the car

This would be a great deal breaker while trying to get your hands-on experience on that pre-owned car you wish to make yours. A preferred stat to check on is the manufacturing year of the car, as it plays a very vital role in the overall life of the vehicle. Be sure to cross-check all the details regarding the make and model, as this might affect your after-buying experience. Vehicle history is another important parameter which you don’t want to miss, as it shows how the vehicle has been maintained and looked after. The vehicle history could include going through the service history, previous owners details and pending challans if any. If the car is too old on paper and looks pretty new to you, there might be some hidden information you might want to get your head into. So, make sure you do the required insinuations and get a clear cut image of what is on the offer for you.

Have a thorough test run

Getting yourself a thorough run through is one of the most important aspects of getting yourself a pre-owned vehicle. A great way to do this is taking the car for a spin and getting a thorough test drive. Legend has it that a car speaks to you if you listen carefully and test drives are a great way to do just that. There must be a certain precision of looking into the way the car comes alive and one should also keep in mind to check for any unwanted sounds coming from any parts of the vehicle. The test drive will provide you with a great amount of insights into the idea of what you are buying for yourself. As these luxury vehicles are loaded with features, e.g., power seats, sun roofs, parking assists, 360-degree camera and so on. Going by the looks of the car, it might look appealing to you but there could be a very crucial area where you would want to put your maximum investigative skills.

Checking the paperwork

Thanks to the laws made by the government of our country, there is a great amount of documentation carried upon while buying a vehicle. These might cause a great amount of frustration in the coming times, especially if one does not actually look through all the paperwork. One of the most convenient ways to verify all the information provided is going through the App mParivahan — a government-run application developed by the NIC (National Informatics Centre) where info regarding RC, challans, insurance and pollution can be found. This is a very easy way of inspecting the paperwork as the information over the app is uploaded by the government officials. The reason this is such a vital part is because of the sheer nature of us ignoring to check the documents and making a big mistake. Furthermore, insurance information can give you an idea about the damages that the car might have procured while it was with its previous owner.

Checking the otherwise flawless body of the vehicle

As we all know, a seamlessly flawless body could give you a great idea of what you might want to consider buying, but inspecting it is also a very important aspect. Get an expert mechanic with you whom you can trust with decisions, and let him do the work needed. This is necessary as your decision might get clouded with the enchanting beauty of the car you laid your eyes on, but with a guy whose job is to fix cars, these inspections could come in handy. In this process, you could end up finding if there were any fixes made to the vehicle or if there is any unwanted rust lurking under the beautifully polished body.

Okay, now let’s consider that you have completed all the work required before purchasing that pre-owned luxury car for yourself. These things will consume a great amount of work and time which you could have otherwise enjoyed spending some quality time with your loved ones. But, then again, this is your dream coming true: how could you be at ease.
