Mercedes-Benz India Unveils GLS AMG Line

Mercedes-Benz India has given its flagship full-size luxury SUV a performance-inspired update with the introduction of the GLS AMG Line variants. Available in both petrol (GLS 450 AMG Line) and diesel (GLS 450d AMG Line) guises, the updated GLS arrives with sharper styling, premium interior touches, and retains its powerful inline-six punch.

Pricing & Positioning

1. GLS 450 AMG Line (petrol): ₹1.40 crore (ex-showroom)

2. GLS 450d AMG Line (diesel): ₹1.43 crore (ex-showroom)

Both versions carry a modest premium over their standard counterparts—₹3 lakh extra on petrol and ₹1 lakh on diesel, making it a cost-effective upgrade for AMG styling and features.

What’s New – AMG Styling & Upgrades

– Distinctive AMG front and rear bumpers with enlarged air intakes and diffuser-style detailing.

– Sporty body-coloured wheel arches and side sills to match the updated rugged aesthetic.

– 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, large perforated front brakes, and “Mercedes-Benz” branded brake callipers.

– AMG Night Package options: blacked-out exterior trim pieces—mirror caps, window frames, roof rails—with dark chrome grille slats.

Inside the Cabin – Sport Meets Luxury

– A flat-bottom, three-twin-spoke AMG sports steering wheel in Nappa leather.

– Brushed stainless steel AMG pedals and AMG-branded floor mats.

– Dual 12.3″ digital displays, four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and ADAS features remain unchanged but feel more performance-oriented under the AMG theme.

Powertrain & Performance

The AMG Line retains the mechanical package of the standard GLS:

1. GLS 450 (petrol): 3.0 L turbocharged inline6 producing 375 hp and 500 Nm.

2. GLS 450d (diesel): 3.0 L inline6 delivering 362 hp and 750 Nm.

Each is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, delivering a 0–100 km/h dash in just 6.1 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Market Impact & Mercedes-Benz Momentum

This launch is timely: Mercedes-Benz India has just reported record-breaking Q1 sales(April–June 2025), with 4,238 units sold—a 10% year-on-year increase.

The GLS contributes significantly, with over 16,000 units sold in India to date. Notably, top-end and EV models saw even stronger interest, with top-end luxury vehicles up 20% and BEV sales surging 157% year-on-year.

Verdict: AMG Appeal with Familiar Heart

The GLS AMG Line doesn’t reinvent the wheel—it builds on an already impressive platform. With enhanced visual aggression, tasteful interior upgrades, and no compromise in ride comfort or performance, it targets buyers seeking a sharper edge without diving into full AMG territory.

At a modest premium, it’s a clever offering for those wanting the AMG cachet on a flagship platform.
