Second-Hand vs. New Car: What’s Right for You?

You have finally made up your mind. You’ve decided to go ahead and buy a luxury car and realize that much-awaited childhood dream. But then, that big question arises: Should you purchase a brand new luxury car or reap the financial benefits of a second-hand car?

While the idea of buying a shiny new car has its charm, the same can be said for the prospect of investing in a second hand luxury car and saving lakhs of rupees. But that’s not it. There’s a long list of pros and cons for both of these options.

But before we dive into the advantages and disadvantages of going with either option, let’s explore the current used luxury car market in India with some vital statistics relevant to our big debate—second-hand car vs. new car.

New Car vs Used Car: Some Statistics from the Luxury Automobiles Segment

India’s used luxury car market has shown consistent expansion over the years, growing at an annual rate of 20%.

In comparison, India’s new luxury car market in 2024 grew by just 6%, selling around 51,200 units, with Mercedes and BMW registering increased sales.

The growth in the pre-owned luxury car market in India is driven by young professionals between 30 and 40 years of age who are increasingly willing to buy their favourite luxury car early on in their lives. Source

According to a survey conducted with Auto Dealers in India, the demand for pre-owned luxury vehicles has increased by 35–40% year on year. That is because a huge chunk of luxury car owners tend to upgrade after just one or two years of ownership.  Source

India’s pre-owned luxury car market has been predicted to grow at a CAGR of 16.3% between 2024 and 2032

These numbers tell us clearly that more and more Indians are beginning to fancy buying luxury cars. While some are purchasing brand-new luxury automobiles, others are going for pre-owned luxury cars in India.

So, let’s analyze the pros and cons of both to help you make a well-informed choice.

Pros and Cons of Buying a Used Luxury Car

Thousands of Indians buy used luxury cars every year. But just because they’re doing it doesn’t make it the better option, does it? So, let’s explore the important advantages and disadvantages of buying a pre-owned luxury car in India.

Pros

  • Any used luxury car will cost you around 30% to 50% less than the brand-new version of the same. So, you get the same set of features and the same style at a fraction of the price.

  • New luxury cars depreciate the most in their first year of use. So, buying a pre-owned luxury car means that you entirely skip that 1st year which brings maximum depreciation. Naturally, your secondhand luxury car will depreciate, but the rate will be much slower.

  • Compared to their newer models, used luxury cars have much lower insurance premiums. So, here’s another area where purchasing a secondhand luxury machine saves you some money.

  • With the rise in used luxury car dealerships, you can always find places to buy that offer a range of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) benefits like warranty and inspection.

  • Lastly, when you buy your favourite luxury car from a user car provider, you get all the features and interiors that you dreamt of without burning your pockets.

Cons

  • Sometimes, the options available in the used luxury car market are not as diverse and vast as the new luxury car market. So, while scanning the market for a used luxury car, it might be challenging to find one that has the exact features and style you are looking for.

  • Used luxury cars come with a higher mileage, which takes a toll on their lifespan. This can be a deciding factor if you’re out to buy a car for the long run.

Pros and Cons of Buying a New Luxury Car

From the outset, buying a brand-new luxury car seems like a dream, doesn’t it? But when you look closely, you’ll find that it has its risks and disadvantages. Let us dissect them for you here, along with the benefits.

Pros

  • First of all, buying a new car comes with a whole host of the latest features. Furthermore, a shiny new luxury car will be backed by the most cutting-edge technology. Be it technology, design, fuel efficiency, or safety, you’ll get the best of what’s trending in the market.

  • New luxury cars come with attractive manufacturer’s warranties. So, if anything goes wrong in a new luxury car, it is probably covered by the warranty.

  • When you buy a new car, there are no previous owners to worry about and no history of misuse that might have hurt the machine’s health. So, you make a fresh start with a new luxury car.

Cons

  • A brand-new luxury car will lose up to 30% of its value in the first year, thanks to depreciation. This makes buying a new luxury car a much costlier investment compared to buying a pre-owned car

  • When you buy a new car, you get a premium automobile, but you also pay the ‘premium’ price. Luxury cars cost a fortune today, while a lightly used pre-owned luxury car can offer a similar feature set at a much lower price.

  • We come back to the money factor, again. A brand new luxury car will come with additional expenses in the form of higher insurance premiums and road taxes.

New vs Used Luxury Car: The Verdict

Of course, a shiny new luxury car is the stuff of dreams, right? But it also comes with drawbacks such as rapid depreciation, higher insurance premiums, and increased upfront costs.

Meanwhile, a carefully picked pre-owned luxury car can give you, more or less, a similar set of advanced features, prestige, and performance. But it does that at a cost that is much lower than the former.

However, picking a side in the new vs used car debate depends on your needs and preferences. What is your budget? What is your intent behind the purchase? Are you willing to pay the higher premiums and suffer the depreciation hit?

Once you have a clear answer to these questions, you’ll know what’s right for you between a pre-owned luxury car and a brand new one.

The Rise of the Luxury Car Market in India – 2024

Luxury has always had a distinct place in the Indian automotive market. For some, it is a symbol of success and heritage; for others, it is about unparalleled comfort, technology, and performance.

It’s intriguing that luxury cars in India while maintaining their exclusive niche, are becoming a growing segment of aspiration, demand, and desirability.

In 2024, India’s luxury car market witnessed remarkable growth, with sales passing the 50,000 mark for the first time in India—a 5-6% year-on-year increase. This expansion is not merely a reflection of economic progress but also an evolving consumer mindset.

Buyers today expect more than just a prestigious nameplate; they seek personalized experiences, cutting-edge technology, and vehicles that align with their lifestyle.

The segment, once concentrated in metro cities, is now seeing strong traction in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, where demand for premium automobiles is on the rise. At the same time, the industry is witnessing a shift toward electric luxury mobility, with brands investing heavily in high-performance EVs.

With global automakers increasing their commitment to the Indian market, improved financing options, and the rise of pre-owned luxury car sales, this sector is poised for further expansion.

The question is no longer whether luxury cars will grow in India but how fast and how significantly they will shape the future of the country’s premium automotive landscape.

Market Overview: A Changing Landscape for Luxury Cars in India

Traditionally, India’s luxury car market was centred around Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and other metropolitan cities.

However, 2024 has seen a major shift in consumer demand, with high-end brands expanding into emerging economic hubs like Indore, Surat, Lucknow, and Coimbatore.

This expansion is a response to the growing number of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and affluent business owners in these regions. With stronger infrastructure, improved road networks, and rising aspirations, luxury is no longer confined to select urban clusters—it is reaching every corner of the country.

Recognizing this opportunity, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi have been increasing their retail presence beyond metros.

Companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo have also begun tapping into this demand, ensuring that buyers in these regions have access to world-class sales and service experiences.

Audi’s commitment to innovation is evident in its push towards electrification, with models like the e-tron gaining traction among eco-conscious consumers.

4. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)

Combining British heritage with modern luxury, Jaguar Land Rover has elevated its appeal in India through a robust local assembly strategy.

This initiative has been a resounding success—boosting sales by approx 23% in Apr 24 to Dec 2024 period, with 4,390 vehicles retailed—and ensuring that the locally assembled Range Rover series lives up to its reputation for unparalleled off-road capability and opulent interiors.

The success of local assembly has not only optimized production and delivery but also reinforced JLR’s commitment to offering tailored, high-quality luxury experiences to Indian buyers.

5. Volvo

Emphasizing safety and Scandinavian design, Volvo has attracted a segment of buyers who prioritize understated elegance and advanced safety features.

The XC90 SUV stands out for its spaciousness, minimalist interior, and a suite of driver assistance technologies.

Volvo’s commitment to sustainability is also evident in its move towards hybrid and electric powertrains.

6. Porsche

For the first time, Porsche has surpassed the 1,000-unit sales milestone in India, delivering 1,006 vehicles and achieving a 10% year-on-year growth. The Cayenne continues to be the brand’s flagship model, accounting for approximately 45% of total sales.

With its legacy of performance and exclusivity, Porsche is steadily carving out a niche in the Indian luxury market. In FY2024, the brand’s iconic 911 and versatile Cayenne models have resonated with affluent enthusiasts seeking both exhilarating performance and refined luxury.

Porsche has reported a notable uptick in demand, particularly in key metropolitan hubs, as its limited-production sports cars continue to capture the imagination of India’s elite.

The marque’s commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with timeless design further solidifies its position as a premium choice in the competitive luxury segment.

Each of these brands brings a distinct value proposition, contributing to a vibrant and competitive luxury car market in India.

What’s Fueling This Growth?

1. Evolving Ownership Models

Buyers today have multiple ways to own a luxury car, from leasing programs to luxury subscriptions and buy-back programs.

These flexible options allow consumers to upgrade their vehicles more frequently without long-term commitments.

2. Luxury Tourism & Experience-Driven Demand

The demand for chauffeur-driven luxury experiences has increased significantly.

Many high-end hotels, resorts, and premium rental services now offer luxury car rentals, making them more accessible to a wider audience.

3. Affluent Young Buyers

The Indian luxury car market is witnessing a transformative shift in its consumer base. No longer confined to established business magnates, a growing number of young, affluent individuals—including millennial entrepreneurs, tech professionals, and social media influencers—are entering the high-end automotive arena.

According to a recent Economic Times article, the average age of luxury car buyers in India has dropped by nearly a decade, now standing at around 40 years.

These emerging buyers value both the status and the unique experiences that luxury cars offer, fueling a new era of demand and innovation in the segment.

4. New Model Launches Driving Market Excitement

Innovation in the model lineup has also played a significant role in fueling growth. In 2024, all leading brands launched various new models- facelifts or complete gen change, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class being the most notable ones.

The trend is expected to cntinue in 2025 to generate interest in the market. In 2025, Mercedes-Benz India is set to unveil 8 new models by year’s end—introducing eagerly awaited variants like the AMG GLE 53 Coupe, G 580, Maybach EQS 680 Night Series SUV, CLA concept, AMG SL 55 Roadster, AMG S 63 E Performance and E 450 LWB AMG versions.

The AMG E 53 Plug-in Hybrid, along with the AMG GT R, could also be launched here.

Meanwhile, BMW India is ramping up its product offensive with plans to roll out 19 new models this year in total; notably, 13 of these are luxury car models (excluding six additional two-wheeler launches under BMW Motorrad.

These strategic introductions are not only expanding each brand’s portfolio but also intensifying consumer interest and contributing significantly to the sector’s robust growth.

The Evolution of the Used Luxury Car Market in India

The pre-owned luxury car segment in India has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a nascent market to a thriving industry.

  • Affordability and Value Proposition

A key driver of this growth is the value proposition offered by pre-owned luxury vehicles. Luxury cars typically experience rapid depreciation in their initial years, making them more accessible to a broader audience when purchased.

For instance, a four-year-old luxury sedan can be acquired at nearly half its original price, providing buyers with an opportunity to experience premium features without the hefty price tag.

  • Certified Pre-Owned Programs

To instill confidence among buyers, many manufacturers have introduced Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programs. These programs ensure that vehicles undergo rigorous inspections and are refurbished to meet specific standards.

Brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi offer such programs, providing warranties and services and adding a layer of assurance and transparency to the market.

Known as the “Fintail” due to its subtle rear fins, the W110 offered a range of Inline-4 engines, including a diesel option. Engine outputs ranged from 55 hp to 120 hp. Third Generation (W114/W115: 1968-1976)

Initial Launch (1968)

The W114 and W115 models, launched in 1968, introduced a new era of refinement and performance. The W114/W115 series also introduced more luxurious interiors and advanced suspension systems for improved ride comfort.

Fourth Generation (W123: 1976-1985)

From Zeppelins to Luxury Cars: The Unfolding Saga of Maybach

When we speak of unparalleled luxury, impeccable craftsmanship, and elite automotive engineering, one name that consistently stands out is Maybach. Now synonymous with the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury offerings, the Maybach name carries a rich history and a legacy of excellence. In this blog, we will delve into the fascinating history of Maybach, explore why Mercedes-Benz chose to resurrect this illustrious name, and trace the journey of Maybach vehicles from their inception to the present day.

The Birth of Maybach: A Legacy Begins

Maybach was originally founded by Wilhelm Maybach and his son, Karl Maybach, in 1909. Initially, the company was focused on producing high-performance engines for Zeppelins, but it wasn’t long before they turned their expertise to the burgeoning automotive industry. The first Maybach car, the W1, was introduced in 1919. Over the next few decades, Maybach became renowned for producing some of the most luxurious and technologically advanced automobiles of the era. These vehicles were characterized by their powerful engines, opulent interiors, and meticulous craftsmanship.

The Golden Age and Decline

The 1920s and 1930s were the golden years for Maybach. The brand became synonymous with luxury, with models like the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8 gaining acclaim for their grandeur and performance. However, the outbreak of World War II brought significant challenges, like other automotive manufacturers, Maybach was producing engines for tanks like Panzer and half-tracks during the WWII. Post-war, Maybach struggled to regain its preeminence in the luxury car market, and by 1960, the company had ceased producing automobiles, instead focusing on manufacturing engines for other industries.

Revival Under Mercedes-Benz: A New Era of Luxury

The Maybach name remained dormant until Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, decided to revive it as an ultra-luxury sub-brand. In 1997, the Maybach name was resurrected at the Tokyo Motor Show, where Mercedes-Benz showcased the concept of a new luxury marque aimed at competing with the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

First Reintroduction (1997-2012)

The first production models of the modern Maybach, the 57 and 62, were launched in 2002. These models were named according to their lengths (5.7 meters and 6.2 meters, respectively) and were based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class platform. They featured a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering unparalleled performance and luxury.

Despite their excellence, the Maybach brand struggled to achieve the anticipated sales targets. In 2012, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would discontinue the standalone Maybach marque due to low sales and the economic downturn.

The Resurgence: Mercedes-Maybach

Undeterred by the initial setback, Mercedes-Benz reintroduced the Maybach name in 2015 as part of its S-Class lineup, branding it as Mercedes-Maybach. This strategic move aimed to leverage the legendary Maybach name while integrating it more closely with the highly successful S-Class range. The first models under this new strategy were the Mercedes-Maybach S 500 and S 600, which featured extended wheelbases, opulent interiors, and advanced technology, setting a new standard for luxury sedans.

Modern Day Luxury: The Latest Mercedes-Maybach Models

Today, the Mercedes-Maybach lineup includes a range of ultra-luxury vehicles that continue to push the boundaries of opulence and innovation. Some of the standout models include:

Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

The latest iteration of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class continues to set the benchmark for luxury sedans. It features a twin-turbocharged V8 or V12 engine, state-of-the-art technology, and an interior that exudes elegance and sophistication. The rear passenger area is particularly noteworthy, offering executive seating with extensive legroom, massage functions, and a host of amenities designed for ultimate comfort.

Mercedes-Maybach GLS

In 2019, Mercedes-Maybach expanded its lineup with the introduction of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, an ultra-luxury SUV. The GLS offers a commanding presence on the road, combined with the luxury and refinement expected from the Maybach name. It features a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with EQ Boost, a sumptuous interior with premium materials, and cutting-edge technology.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS

In 2024, Mercedes-Maybach unveiled the EQS 680, an all-electric luxury SUV that blends the iconic opulence of the Maybach brand with cutting-edge electric technology from Mercedes-Benz. The EQS 680 redefines luxury for the eco-conscious elite, blending Maybach’s legendary opulence with cutting-edge electric mobility. The vehicle is expected to be launched in India in 2025.

The Essence of Maybach

The decision by Mercedes-Benz to use the Maybach name for its most luxurious models is deeply rooted in the heritage and prestige associated with the Maybach legacy. The name Maybach evokes images of unparalleled luxury, meticulous craftsmanship, and a commitment to excellence. By integrating Maybach into its brand, Mercedes-Benz not only honors this legacy but also reinforces its own commitment to providing the highest levels of luxury and innovation to its discerning customers.

Conclusion: A Legacy of Excellence

The journey of Maybach, from its early days as a pioneer in luxury automotive engineering to its modern incarnation as the epitome of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury offerings, is a testament to the enduring appeal of unparalleled craftsmanship and innovation. Today, Mercedes-Maybach continues to set the standard for luxury vehicles, combining the rich heritage of the Maybach name with the cutting-edge technology and sophistication of Mercedes-Benz. As we look to the future, the legacy of Maybach will undoubtedly continue to inspire and captivate, representing the pinnacle of automotive luxury and excellence.

The Evolving Used Luxury Car Market in India

The luxury car market in India has been experiencing significant growth over the past couple of years. In 2023, the luxury car segment in India grew by around 20% with the highest-ever sales of around 47,000 cars in a calendar year, showcasing a robust demand despite global economic uncertainties. This evolution is driven by a combination of increasing disposable incomes, rising number of millionaires, and the aspirational value associated with luxury brands. In 2024, the market is expected to cross 50,000-unit sales. This seems quite possible if we look at the Jan-24-Mar-24 quarterly sales of the segment which is estimated to have grown at 14% Y-o-Y basis. However, the penetration of luxury cars in India remains very low at 1% compared to other emerging economies like Brazil, Thailand, and Indonesia where luxury car penetration ranges from 5% to 8%. The lower penetration could also signal a future boom in demand for luxury cars in India.

What is more interesting is how the used luxury car market is evolving in India. The market size for used luxury cars in India is expected to have crossed 60,000 units in 2023, and it is projected to grow at a double-digit CAGR over the next few years. No need to say, the growth in new car sales is bound to further boost the used luxury car market in coming years. So what is driving the sales of used luxury cars? Let’s delve into the top reasons we find are driving the growth of the segment.

Key Factors Driving the Growth of Used Luxury Cars in India

Affordability: It is quite ironic to use the word ‘Affordability’ while talking about luxury cars, but this is one of the primary factors driving the growth of the used luxury car market. Luxury cars depreciate faster than regular cars, making high-end models available at significantly lower prices in the used car market. This allows a broader range of consumers to access these vehicles.

Value for Money: Used luxury cars offer excellent value for money, as buyers can get a top-tier vehicle with advanced features and superior performance at a fraction of the original price. This makes them an attractive option for value-conscious consumers who desire luxury without the hefty price tag.

Increasing Trust in Pre-Owned Vehicles: The growing network of certified pre-owned programs by luxury car manufacturers has enhanced consumer trust in the quality and reliability of used luxury cars. These programs offer rigorous inspection processes, warranties, and after-sales services, ensuring peace of mind for buyers. Audi India sold 3449 pre-owned cars through its Audi Approved Plus showrooms, recording a 62% growth in 2023. Mercedes-Benz India reported 20% growth in the first six months of 2023. A similar trend is seen in the organized multi-brand dealerships that have started offering warranties and allied services on their used luxury cars.

Consumer Behavior: The aspirational nature of Indian consumers, coupled with the increasing influence of social media and lifestyle trends, has led to a higher demand for luxury cars. Owning a luxury vehicle is often seen as a status symbol, and the used car market provides an accessible entry point.

Technological Advancements: The integration of technology in the sales process, including online platforms and digital showrooms, has made it easier for consumers to explore and purchase used luxury cars. This convenience has significantly contributed to market growth.

Allied service offering: Used car financing, warranties, certification, RSA, etc. have made buying a used luxury car very similar to buying a new car. These services go a long way in building trust and making buying a used luxury car affordable (financing).

Future Predictions for the Used Luxury Car Market in India

The future of the used luxury car market in India looks promising. With continuous economic growth and increasing urbanization, the demand for luxury vehicles is expected to rise. The market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of around 12-14% over the next five years. Several trends are likely to shape this growth:

Expansion of Digital Platforms: The rise of digital platforms and online marketplaces will continue to streamline the buying and selling process, making it more accessible and efficient for consumers. Motozite is one such digital platform catering exclusively to luxury car buyers and sellers.

Enhanced Customer Experience: Luxury car manufacturers and dealerships are expected to invest more in providing personalized and premium customer experiences, further boosting consumer confidence in the used car market. This is evident from the growing strength of pre-owned car showrooms of the OEMs e.g. Audi Approved Plus.

Sustainability and Electric Vehicles: With the global shift towards sustainability, the demand for used luxury electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to grow. As more luxury brands introduce electric models, the pre-owned market will also see an increase in the availability of these eco-friendly vehicles.

Conclusion

The used luxury car market in India is on a growth trajectory, driven by affordability, value for money, increased consumer trust, and evolving consumer behavior. At Motozite, we are proud to be a part of this dynamic industry. Our platform offers a seamless and trustworthy experience for customers looking to buy used or demo luxury cars. The Hidden Perks: Unveiling the Benefits of Buying a Demo Car

Introduction:

When it comes to purchasing a new car, many individuals tend to overlook the hidden gem that is the demo car. A demo car, also known as a demonstration vehicle, is a vehicle that has been used for test drives or displayed in showrooms. While some may hesitate due to the car’s previous use, there are numerous benefits to be gained from buying a demo car. In this blog post, we will explore the advantages of opting for a demo car, shedding light on why it could be a smart choice for your next automotive purchase.

Significant Cost Savings:

One of the most enticing aspects of purchasing a demo car is the considerable cost savings it offers. Since demo cars have been driven or used for display purposes, they are often priced lower than brand-new vehicles. These price reductions can result in substantial savings without compromising on the car’s quality or performance. By opting for a demo car, you can enjoy the benefits of a new car at a significantly reduced price.

Minimal Depreciation:

Depreciation is an unavoidable aspect of purchasing a new vehicle. As soon as you drive a new car off the lot, its value begins to decline rapidly. However, with a demo car, the depreciation has already taken place to some extent, thanks to its previous usage. This means that the initial steep drop in value has already occurred, allowing you to avoid the brunt of the depreciation. As a result, your demo car retains its value better than a brand-new car, providing you with a better return on investment should you choose to sell it in the future.

Assurance of Quality:

Demo cars are often meticulously maintained and regularly serviced by the dealership. These vehicles are typically kept in top condition to ensure they showcase the best features and capabilities of the model. Additionally, since they are only used for test drives or display purposes, demo cars generally have lower mileage compared to used cars. This translates into a car that still feels and performs like new but comes with a reduced price tag.

Manufacturer Warranty:

When purchasing a demo car, you can still benefit from the remaining portion of the manufacturer warranty. This means that you will have access to warranty coverage for a significant period, providing peace of mind and protection against unexpected repairs. It’s essential to clarify the warranty details with the dealership to understand the extent of coverage you will receive.

Upgraded Features and Extras:

Demo cars are often equipped with additional features and options that showcase the best a manufacturer has to offer. Dealerships frequently equip these vehicles with popular packages, technology upgrades, or premium amenities to enhance their appeal during test drives. By purchasing a demo car, you can enjoy these added features at a lower cost compared to customizing a new car.

Conclusion:

Choosing a demo car can be a wise decision, offering a multitude of benefits including significant cost savings, reduced depreciation, assurance of quality, access to manufacturer warranty, and the inclusion of upgraded features. While they may have been gently used, demo cars provide an excellent opportunity to own a nearly new vehicle with excellent value for your money. The next time you consider purchasing a car, don’t overlook the hidden perks of a demo car; it might just be the perfect choice for your automotive needs.

At Motozite, we take pride in offering a diverse and exceptional luxury demo car collection. Our carefully curated selection includes a range of popular makes and models, all meticulously maintained and ready to provide you with an unparalleled buying experience. Whether you’re searching for a sleek sedan, a versatile SUV, or a stylish sports car, our demo car collection has something to cater to every preference and budget.

What Mercedes-AMGs are all about!

German engineering has been doing some great work in the automobile industry for a very long time. Every car enthusiast has, somewhere or the other, felt the sheer brilliance of the German car making and has been left spellbound.

Mercedes is one of the prominent names in the German automobile industry and has some of the great performance and luxury lines to choose from. The permutation and combination used by Mercedes while creating a vehicle is beyond ordinary and provides the customer the best of everything that they would want to engage in. With the demand for performance-infused luxury gaining traction with each passing day, Mercedes has tried to level itself with others by launching a new segment all together: The mighty AMGs.

Let’s have a better understanding of the whole term and moreover the segment itself. AMG stands for Aufecht, Melcher and Großaspach – the division of Mercedes-Benz that produces performance vehicles with some of the mind-bending numbers under the hood and the speedo. Named after some of the most important engineers in the company’s history, this division creates vehicles with advanced engines, aerodynamic bodies and high-speed capabilities: Something that one can push to the maximum limit and the vehicle will still be happy to go beyond. Welcome to the world of high-performing four-wheel magnificence.

To put into words, the AMG line from Mercedes is the dream of any performance enthusiast. Everything done while creating these special vehicles at Mercedes-AMG revolves around this. The philosophy behind making these adrenaline-rising machines is to give the people an aspiration to make their dreams come true and have a great vehicle which is at par with all the hyper speeding vehicles out there in the world.

Delivering something like this does not happen by chance. It is achieved when the art of engineering meets a truly special attitude, which is summed up as the AMG spirit at Mercedes. The whole creative mindset runs on the sheer belief that you have to keep on challenging limits in order to achieve new goals, and accept nothing as a given. This kind of character enables the makers to achieve automotive performance for the race track as well as for the road.

A great obsession with driving performance drives the mark of Mercedes-AMG. From the vicious speed of the GT R to the rugged power of the G 63 to the all-out ambition of the AMG ONE hypercar, each vehicle is built to stir the senses. And in their true spirit, these machines are capable of delivering maximum performance without even making you feel that you are even pushing them to their limit.

Now that we have some idea what the Mercedes AMG line is capable of delivering, let’s see what all cars are there to put your hands on.

Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe

A whole new coupe packed with performance and agility to handle the harsh conditions of the Indian roads, that’s what this GLE 63 S Coupe is all about. Moreover, it actually delivers ₹2.15 crore worth of luxury SUV muscle with magnificent German engineering.

Mercedes practically kick-started the performance SUV trend back in 1999 with its 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 under the hood of the then ML or M-Class. Two decades later, the formula has evolved considerably, but the fundamentals are still the same. Let’s figure out what this new-generation SUV is capable of!

Engine Specifications and Performance

Everything begins with the transformation of AMG lowering its fabled 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 into the spacious bonnet. The hand-assembled engine makes a seriously potent 603 hp; and this is just the beginning, as this AMG motor now also gets a 22 hp electric boost. While the combined system power never exceeds 612hp, the EQ Boost starter-alternator (placed in between the engine and gearbox) also puts out an additional 250 Nm of torque, which goes a long way in countering the 2,445 kg kerb weight of the GLE Coupe. What’s particularly effective is that the bulk of the assist comes in at low and medium engine speeds, just when you need it the most. Sounds like a perfect love story, isn’t it? AMG says that this makes for a spontaneous step-off. What’s even better is that, followed by the 850Nm of torque from the combustion engine, it is as smooth as it gets. With just pushing the gas a bit hard, this beauty will accelerate from 0-100 kph in a claimed 3.8sec. Furthermore, there is no feeling of draining power until you are well past 200 kph. The legend has it that this one is sure to make your bones and soul chill at the same time.

Interiors

The all-new AMG’s version of the GLE feels both more luxurious and more sporty at the same time. The carbon-fibre-like metallic trim that runs across the dash blends nicely with the big chrome vents and chrome highlights, making the whole make come together easily. The generous use of Alcantara on the steering wheel gives the cabin a sporty feel, and with acres and acres of double-stitched leather present on the dash and door pads, you feel the instant plushness of the luxury which is on offer by Mercedes. This is especially true of the large and very sporty seats. Sitting is marginally lower in the rear than in a regular GLE due to a coupe-like roof, but the headroom is very good and the wide seat is perfect for large frames. Then, just as on the regular GLE, there’s plenty of legroom and shoulder room. One can even ask the driver to take the front passenger seat forward, and the presence of the simply massive sunroof means you can bathe the rear of the cabin in bright sunlight. Rear seat passengers also have their own climate control console with Type-C USB ports and even a regular 240V plug point present in the rear, making all your work and leisure things seem comparatively sorted while you’re in the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe.

This one is an extremely accomplished all-rounder with everything you can expect from a performance oriented luxury coupe. Straight-line performance, to begin with, is outstanding along with a large and comfortable cabin. It is lavishly equipped on the inside, and on its air springs and adjustable dampers, the ride, in general, is comfortable.
